What do I think of SiairaShawn’s new single Icarus? I’ve heard this question at LEAST 50 times since the release, so I figure I should form a coherent opinion on it.
This is one of the more harmonically cohesive songs I’ve heard from Siaira, with consistent background vocals, and clear structural integrity, insofar as arrangement. Conceptually, this song will probably go over a lot of heads (one line says “Am I complicit in my non-existence?” – how many casual listeners will actually grasp that?), but since Siaira is enjoyed sonically by most, it’s bound to still be a popular joint.
Production: Well… it’s a step above other songs I’ve heard from Siara, as well, although I’m still unsatisfied with it. It goes well with the song, but it’s extremely empty. Rhythmically, it takes an interesting journey, reminding me of something that Darkchild might produce for Brandy in the Full Moon days. I’m interested to see how the instrumentation would manifest in a live stage setting.
Overall, it’s a good single. It doesn’t take my breath away, but I like it. Check it out by clicking on the cover art below.
